Science does not always have an immediate payoff Science sometimes discovers what is referred to as fundamental knowledge. It is knowledge about the way the universe works. Not just about how molecules interact with one another, but the way that molecules are formed. Fundamental knowledge is critical since it shows how neutrons and protons are made. It lets us know whether our theories about gravity are right or not. It also helps us better understand how radiation (or waves of light) interact with the human body.
The fundamental knowledge that we obtain from science often doesn’t have applications immediately.
It can decades or even centuries for fundamental knowledge to be put into action. However, once the knowledge is obtained, and the applications are created, it can be difficult to imagine life without them. Can you imagine living without electricity?
That would mean your food would have to be cooked over a fire, you would need layers of blankets to keep warm, your clothes would all need to be hand-sewn, and you would have to walk to get anywhere. You definitely would not be able to reheat your dinner in the microwave.
Old technology that used to be so exciting, so novel, so new that we now cannot imagine living without this technology. The world we live in currently has so much technology that we cannot imagine not having in our lives.
Science is important because new technologies are created.
From quantum computing to light-controlled brains, origami folding prosthetic limbs, nano-sized cancer zappers, Martian rovers, and Martian rovers – there are plenty of places where science is headed.

There need to be dedicated bodies to run the experiments and good brains inside the labs. We need to have people who are capable of collaboration, mathematics, and problem-solving.
